American Precoat Opens First-of-Its-Kind Automotive-Grade Electro Galvanized Steel Plant in India, running Full-throttle endorsing ‘Vocal for Local’

In what could be described only as a game-changing, strategic development in the steel industry of the country, American Precoat Specialty Pvt. Ltd. has set up its continuous Electro-Galvanized Steel plant in India at Valsad, Gujarat.

What makes the move all the more alluring for the Indian automobile industry is that the plant is developing and manufacturing automotive-grade EG Steel. It is the first of its kind from the company in India, an economy that spends millions of dollars every year importing EG Steel from suppliers such as South Korea, China, and Taiwan to meet the requirements of its local automobile industries.
American Precoat ensures that the market’s need for the automotive-grade EG Steel will be met with a focus on the idea of ‘Vocal for Local’.
Speaking to our special correspondent, Dr Shubh Gautam, the Promoter and Chief Technical Architect of American Precoat Specialty, said, “American Precoat makes an absolute substitute of the imported steel and stands tall with its head held high as a landmark to refrain our nation’s exchequer to be loaded with millions of dollars, to import the EG still from outside the territory of our country.”
He also spoke about the need to make the steel industry in India self-sufficient. “What we are doing is a mass example to promote the idea of ‘Make in India”, he added.
What Shubh Gautam brings with him is a long-term vision for the country’s automobile manufacturing industry, which even now depends on steel imports.
With American Precoat’s EG Steel plant in India, Mr, Gautam aims to change that for good.
A multi-faceted entity, American Precoat serves customers around the globe with products ranging from special steel, polymer blend alloys, and coil coatings, to specialty coatings among a gamut of other products.

American Precoat Speciality’s Shubh Gautam helps start probe in Electro-Galvanised Steel dumping

The probe by India was initiated based on a written application by American Precoat Speciality Pvt. Ltd., led by its promoter and Chief Technical Architect Dr. Shubh Gautam.

India has initiated an alleged probe into the dumping of Electro-Galvanised Steel on the basis of a written application by American Precoat Speciality Pvt. Ltd., led by its promoter and Chief Technical Architect Dr. Shubh Gautam. The probe acts as a catalyst in bringing about changes and stopping countries like Singapore; Korea and Japan from using India as their dumping station. The information was shared on the DGTR website.

Dr. Shubh Gautam follows on the path shown by our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative of “Vocal for local” has brought about significant transformations in making our nation a self-sufficient one. The idea is not just to be “Made in India” but also to promote the local manufacturing to provide them an equilateral platform vis-à-vis an international manufacturer.

For a company that exports a products at a subsidised pricing, the price it usually charges in its domestic periphery, is said to be “Dumping” the product. To prevent and forbid  nations from this dumping process on their neighbouring areas, the World trade Organization has imposed duties that act as a counter measure to such actions.

This duty works as a protectionist tariff that any governing authority of any particular nation, after a thorough investigation, shall impose on its foreign imports in order to determine fair market prices for international business transactions. This duty aims to ensure balanced trade, and queues in providing a just ground to all domestic manufacturers, despite the flow from foreign manufacturers and exporters.

Happy Reading !

“History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes” said Mark Twain. This maxim throws up two truths: firstly, time moves only in one direction – forward and secondly, sometimes the current reminds you of the past events gone by giving a sense of déjà vu.
The current economic and social crises created by Corona Virus is being talked about as the most severe in the history of the world. It will lead to deep scars on the global economy and many people say it is even worse than the Great Depression of 1929-39. It is estimated that 170 countries in the world will see a negative GDP in 2020.
The world is not new to a global economic crisis. But the current one is a pandemic with far-reaching and deep financial damage. It is not caused by a faulty fiscal or monetary policy and neither by an asset bubble and unlike the previous crisis, it has impacted every single person on the planet.
Let’s do an in-depth assessment of the causes and impact of the previous crisis-the Great Depression of 1929-1939 when a decade ( 1919-1929) of economic prosperity and boom ended up in a world-shattering catastrophe. It was caused by a combination of growing inequality, high tariff protectionism, an increase in consumer debt and margin loans against stocks.
There were two distinguishing features of the Great Depression: severity and length.
It all started in America in the post-1919 euphoria after their victory in the First World War. America was bustling with economic activity – electrification, cars, air travel, household appliances, radios and other new technological advancements that lead to unlimited financial optimism and consumerism in the country. This was also an era when buy today, pay later or instant gratification hit the mainstream.
America issued Liberty Bonds to pay for the war and many people became investors for the first time while they started to trade the bonds. This led to a group of people to believe in the opportunity to make people trade in other investment options of stocks and shares for raising private capital on the New York Stock Exchange. The idea took off and the speculative frenzy infected people across America. Celebrities invested in the stocks and became speculators. At the same time, big Wall Street speculators became celebrities as they were seen as bringing in wealth to America. Most self-respecting Americans saw it as their birthright to be rich.
Then came the doomsday - October 24, 1929 when the stock market crashed. Confidence was gone overnight as the good and the bad plunged in a free fall in the days that followed. USD 25 billion (25% of America’s GDP at that time) worth of wealth was wiped off in just five days. But it was not the free fall in the stock market which led to the Depression. It was the events that followed coupled with the inability and the ineffectiveness of the Government policies to put the economy back on track, that caused it.
The domino effect of the crash led to 10000 banks (40 % of the total banks) failing between 1929-33. The economic output went down by 25% leading to unemployment levels of 30%. The prices of the goods fell by over 60% and it became difficult for the businesses to sell in the environment of deflation.
President Franklin Roosevelt took over in 1933 and said “Never before have we had so little time in which to do so much.” And what followed was the “New Deal” program where the Government passed laws to employ the jobless, support the crop prices, ensure bank deposits and stabilize the economy. The underlying objective was Relief, Recovery, Reform.
Roosevelt maintained a steady course and kept the public informed about his plans and progress through frequent radio broadcasts. He made people believe that they were partners in the efforts of the Government. It gave a lot of confidence to the public at large when the President addressed them as friends and they believed that they were exactly that.

NAVRATRA : Time to eat buckwheat flour

Navratra is the time when wheat flour is omitted from the diet and substituted it with buckwheat flour or kuttu ka aata. Buckwheat is not a cereal grain; it is a fruit and hence is a good substitute for Navratra fasts where cereals are prohibited.
The flour is extremely high in protein and is a wonderful substitute for those who are allergic to gluten (found in wheat). It is good for patients with celiac disease as it is gluten–free. It contains phytonutrient rutin, which lowers cholesterol and blood pressure. It is rich in magnesium, vitamin B, iron, calcium, folate, zinc, copper, manganese and phosphorus. As the buckwheat hulls are hard to chew, traditionally they are soaked for about six hours and then cooked to make them softer and easily digestible. It also contains alpha–linolenic acid, which increases HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol) and controls LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol). It is a good source of insoluble fiber and prevents occurrences of gallbladder stones. According to the American Journal of Gastroenterology, a 5% increase in the insoluble fiber intake results in a 10% reduced risk of gall–bladder stones.Kuttu is 75% of complex carbohydrates and 25% of high quality protein, which makes it an ideal food for weight loss.As the flour is gluten–free, a potato is used to bind the flour together. The flour tastes different.Pooris made from kuttu flour are crunchier than the normal wheat flour pooris. One should not make pooris with hydrogenated oils or vanaspati as it will take away all the medical benefits of buckwheat flour.Buckwheat flour however is subjected to adulteration.Mixtures of rye flour, Indian corn flour, wheat flour, and other ground cereals are often used as a substitute for buckwheat.Being high in fiber and low glycemic index it is good substitute for diabetic patients. The glycemic index for buck wheat is 47 (Low GI foods have a GI value less than 55; medium GI foods have a GI value between 55 and 69 and high GI foods have GI value greater than 70).The chiro-inositol present in buckwheat has been identified as the diabetes preventing component.Asthma symptoms can occur in sensitized children when food allergens such as buckwheat are cooked in a confined area. Both acute and late–phase respiratory symptoms are seen.Eat kuttu ki roti instead of poori or pakodas (fried items) made from kuttu atta (buckwheat flour). One can also prepare idlis from kuttu atta (buckwheat flour) and dosa from the samak rice (non grain seed)Food poisoning may occur if flour left over from the previous year is reused.

Singhara flour — a favorite Navratre diet

During Navratra fasts, wheat flour should be omitted from diet and be substituted with water chestnut (Singhara) or buckwheat (kuttu) flour, said Padma Shri & Dr. BC Roy National Awardee, Dr. KK Aggarwal, President Heart Care Foundation of India & National Vice President Elect IMA. Singhara is not a cereal but a fruit and hence a good substitute for a Navratra fast where cereals are not to be eaten.
Singhara flour is prepared from Singhara or Water Chestnut.Singharas are floating aquatic plants, growing in slow–moving water up to 5 meters deep. The plant bears ornately shaped fruits containing a single very large starchy seed. The seeds or nuts are boiled and sold as snacks or eaten raw.The flour is made from dried, ground water chestnuts. The nuts are boiled, peeled, dried then ground into flour. The flour is bright white fine powder; it is actually a starch rather than flour. The flour is primarily used as a thickener. The flour is used as food in Navratra and consumed as phalahar (fruit) diet.It is an excellent source of energy and provides 115 kcals per 100g.The glycemic index for chestnut is 60. Low GI foods have a GI value less than 55; medium GI foods have a GI value between 55 and 69 and high GI foods have GI value greater than 70.Chestnuts are relatively low in net carbs (total carbohydrate minus dietary fiber) and so are included in many low carb diets.Being a gluten–free product, chestnut flour is a cooking option for people with celiac disease or other gluten intolerances or allergies.Chestnuts do not contain the fat that regular nuts have.It contains less carbohydrate than white flour.People with tree nut allergies should avoid chestnut flour as it may cause an allergic reaction.Flour made from chestnuts is typically more difficult to locate in many areas as well as more expensive than white flour.Avoid eating deep fried chestnut flour pooris or paranthas.Do not use trans fats containing vegetables oils to cook bread from chestnut flour.Buy only branded flour as flour left over from the previous year can lead to food poisoning. As per Ayurveda, chestnut flour has cool and buckwheat flour has hot properties. Both chestnut flour and buckwheat flours can be combined. One should eat phalahar once a week and at least 80 days in a year.

SALUTING THE SPIRIT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP - SRISOL GROUP

THE WIND BENEATH THE WINGS
Dreams that see the most beautiful realization are never about a billion dollar valuation — they are always about a billion dollar value system. At the heart of any success story are four pillars — structure, systems, strategy and process. It is always a visionary and an entrepreneur’s ability to use these four pillars in setting up a timeless success story. The structure is important because it lends stability to the start up. A system at the same time plays a very important role to provide the discipline and four walls of a primary task, strategy adds the most important angle of speedy
innovation that any start-up needs for scaling up and processes glues all of the above in a form that there is harmony and integrity when all the pillars co-exist. Being what you are, believing in what you can do, with the hope that it will all be given up for a good cause were the fundamental emotions that Dr Gautam used to bank on when he started his journey and still holds on to these just as close.

There has always been a difference between where he wanted to be, how he wanted to be and what happened to it after he was long gone. During the course of his journey as an entrepreneur, he mentored many bright and smart young people which went on to lay the foundation of a very strong team, who were very clear from the beginning about why they were a team and what was the difference between their mission, vision and primary tasks. They also new that targets, vision, mission change with time; change with achievements; change with changes that come along the road but the primary task of the mentor and his team always remains the same and that is how they were wedded as a team to ensure that their existence was because of their primary task and which came about to be known as “Smile with Science”.

At SRISOL, their existence has been synonymous with novel innovations and cost-effective manufacturing of environment friendly products — all in organic fields. Since its inception in 1997, the group has structured itself logically and uniquely to have both hermoplastic and thermosetting specialty chemical expertise under one roof. The group has been able to diversify in — coil coatings, food coatings, lining and sealing systems, phase change polymers and other specialty chemicals. With a CAGR of 35% per year for the last five years, 800 employees, in six manufacturing locations spread in three continents globally — SRISOL is a diversified specialty chemical entity that combines the power of science and technology to manufacture products, which contribute to human progress. Today, they deliver a broad portfolio of products and services to customers in  45 countries including shadow clients like Coca Cola, Pepsico, Nestle, TATA, Arcelor, LG, Samsung, Carlsberg, Fosters, Nampaq, etc.

Dr Shubh Gautam believes in that when you are young, your time is limited and that you should not waste it living someone else's life. One should never allow one to be trapped by dogma —which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and ntuition. He says that an entrepreneur knows what he truly wants to become, everything else is secondary. Having an understanding life partner is such a big make or break and the best thing that happened to him was getting married to Dr Rashi Upmanyu — who has stood like a rock in his life. This is what is a true entrepreneurial spirit that he nurtured in quest for going out and changing the world through manufacturing of specialty chemicals after chucking away a well paid job with Fortune 50 brands.
This journey has not been one without many storms that came in the way, and they are these storms only that teach you. Once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through and how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain — when you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about. Competing and beating Fortune 50 companies via manufacturing of knowledge products was not an easy ride if they did not believe in being hungry and foolish.

At the heart of any example of overcoming adversity are four columns, structure, frameworks, procedure and procedure. It is dependably a visionary and a business visionary's capacity to utilize these four columns in setting up an ageless example of overcoming adversity . Rolling out the above was crazy , but as Steve Jobs said: “Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits, the rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them, because they change things. They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

Its poetic pinch made it a bible for kids growing up in the valley in 1950’s and 1960’s. The last publication of the The Whole Earth Catalog, was in the mid- 1970s. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Shubh Gautam - Spoke About Localising Packaging Innovations

Shubh Gautam, president and CEO of Srisol Group, spoke about localising packaging innovations to position a product in the Indian market during his presentation ‘Innovation for Make in India'. Shubh Gautam explained this with a case-study of Kellogg’s poor performance in the initial stages in India. “The reason was cultural mis-match and it had to compete with home-cooked food. To set things right Kellogg had to Indianise its products. The effort to develop products, specifically for the Indian market helped Kellogg make significant inroads into the Indian market,” said Shubh Gautam.
